Benefit Management Systems (BMS) Teams With Online Provider to Offer Benefits.

San Diego Business Journal--October 8, 2001--Benefit Management Systems of California, Inc. recently teamed with BeneTrac, an online benefits provider, to offer Web-based employee benefits and eligibility management to its clientele.

The online program allows for employees to enroll in their company’s benefits program, self-evaluate their current program and make changes that will take place immediately online.

"Employees can make an informed decision based on their needs, make the changes online and BeneTrac goes directly to their carrier," said Chris Nicolaidis, vice president of business development of BMS.

After a year of evaluating several different candidates, the San Diego-based compensation and benefits solutions company, selected BeneTrac.

The service was launched last month.

"We felt strongly that this was the one company that by far was the most flexible and responsive to our service levels," he said.

BMS targets mid-size high-tech and biotech companies that range from 100 to 1,000 employees and serves more than 60 California-based employers.

The reception has been impressive with many of the company’s clientele jumping on the bandwagon to sign up for the service, Nicolaidis said.

"It’s unbelievable. We hear them saying they wish they’d done it a lot sooner," he said.

One of BeneTrac’s greatest advantages is that it eliminates the hassles of filling out paperwork, which makes the workload on BMS employees and clients a lot easier, Nicolaidis said.

"Now I don’t have to worry about shifting through paperwork and it gives us access to privileged information that helps us efficiently support our client," he said.

The online service gives employers and employees access to up-to-date benefits information, the ability for data transfers to existing payroll, and to automate census and eligibility reporting.

"It’s getting to have all that information at your fingertips," said Kerry Tarlov, manager of human resources for Polexis, Inc., a local BMS client.

As the only human resources employee overseeing the software development company’s 62 employees, Tarlov said the service has been a time-saver and made her workday tasks less complicated.

"From day-to-day administrative duties, it’s definitely made my job a lot easier," she said.

Instead of faxing over forms to insurance companies and worrying about lost papers, now employees can choose to enroll themselves, going through a single-source rather than multiple venues.

BeneTrac also allows for employers to customize the site to feature links to company and employee information, insurance providers and reports.

"It’s (BeneTrac) useful (in that) you can make it as limited or as expansive as you want it to be. That’s what I like about it, it’s scalable," Tarlov said.
